Kenneth Cole Productions got its big break in 1982 in the heart of Manhattan. Cole needed a brilliant campaign for his young shoe company in order to catch the attention of the crowds gathered at a downtown shoe expo. His hopes were crushed when he couldn't get a parking permit for his truck, because the city would only issue them to utility trucks and film production trucks. Within three short days, though, all eyes were on Cole and his shoe company as he was surrounded by lights, cameras, and beautiful women. Crowds lined up to buy a pair of shoes in front of the big truck with the words "Kenneth Cole Productions" written on the side. "The Birth of a Shoe Company" would never make it to theaters, but Kenneth Cole Productions would go on to lead the market in shoe manufacturing for years to come.
